School Information Booklet

Each child is an individual with individual strengths and needs.

At school, children will be measured and assessed only against their own abilities and efforts.

Teachers and parents work as partners to help them reach their full potential.

Develop independent habits to:

  • Know the difference between lunch and recess
  • Dress themselves-particularly be able to remove a jumper
  • Make a good attempt to tie shoelaces
  • Care for themselves in the toilet and wash hands carefully
  • Recognise their own belongings
  • Know who to go home with and where to meet them

Encourage the child to co-operate in structured activities and to:

  • Listen attentively
  • Follow simple directions
  • Put away their own school bag
  • Hold a pencil with correct grip
  • Speak politely and use their manners
  • Hold and practice using scissors safely

At school children will begin to develop skills to:

  • Share
  • Be safe
  • Explore
  • Be respectful to others
  • Have a go and be confident
  • Care for themselves and belongings

Early literacy and numeracy skills encouraged include:

  • Writing own name
  • Knowing the alphabet
  • Counting objects
  • Recognising numbers
